If we are going to build God's House spiritually this year then it is not enough just to get people coming to church each Sunday morning to gather together in a crowd, sing songs and listen to a preacher. The church in the New Testament was not simply a crowd of people getting together in the same building, but a dynamic group of people doing life together. Being connected to church meant that the focus was no longer about the individual, but about how that individual was connected with and served with this new community. Sadly this is often missing in our modern church context where the needs of the individual can often get in the way of people connecting correctly in community.

In the New Testament we find that there are 43 'one another' passages declaring how connected the early church was, yet during a Sunday morning service we are able to practice three or maybe four of them. As a church we are meant to interact with one another, share with one another, care for one another, service one another and do many other things, for and with one another

As a leader from time to time I have been asked the question 'Can you be a Christian and not go to church?' Obviously the answer is yes; you can be a Christian and not go to church. We are saved by faith in Jesus Christ and that alone. We are now part of the body of Christ (1 Cor 12) This doesn't mean that we visit a building every Sunday and do certain things, but that now our lives are lived to serve, bless, care and share with others. Jesus said 'By this all men will know you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35). If we are going to build God's House then it is vital that we take up the challenge of love, which is to live beyond ourselves. If we could just concentrate on getting this as the priority in our lives, that we would choose to embrace love in every way, then everything else would fall into place.

Let me Explain:
'A man was instructing students on the importance of making priorities. He produced a large wide mouthed glass jar and about a dozen rocks were carefully placed inside the jar. When the jar filled to the top and no more rocks could be squeezed in, he asked, "Is this jar full?" Everyone said, "Yes". Then he put gravel into the jar and shook it, causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces between the big rocks. "Is this jar full now?" he asked. By this time the class was on to him. "Probably not," they answered. He then poured sand in and filled all the spaces between the rocks and gravel. "Is the jar full now?" "No!" the class shouted. Then he poured water in until the jar was filled to the brim. "What is the point of this illustration?" he said. One student answered, "no matter how full your schedule is. If you try really hard, you can always fit something more into it!" "No," the speaker replied, "That's not the point. The truth is that if you don't put the big rocks in first, you'll never get them in at all."

Time To Build: ICC 100 Club

As a church we recognise that not everyone can give a large one-off gift, but there may be people who are willing to sow a monthly sacrifice into the building project. We are looking for 100 people who will commit to give £100 for 3 years to support the mortgage payment on our new building.

Through this, we will be in a position to show the bank that we have the ability to finance a £1.5m loan and give time for our business enterprise in the building to become established and return and ongoing profit.

At ICC we believe that we serve a God of excellence and abundance and so we want to make sure that we communicate this to the best of our ability. Our new ICC centre will allow us to have purpose built facility that will be the best building of its type in the area. It will have state of the art facilities that will house the growing number of ministries and functions we have as a church.

The stunning 40,000 sq ft, 3 storey building will incorporate the following:

Three purpose built meeting, conference and exhibition balls of different sizes. The rooms range in size from 100, 300 and 1,000-seat theatre style.
Large office space to let, on a weekly, monthly or fixed term contact.
A number of boardrooms and small meeting rooms on different floors.
A green room and recording studio facility for production of high class DVD and audio materials.
80-place day nursery and pre-school and after school clubs.
Large entrance foyer with book shop, reception, meeting points and exhibition area.
Large toilet facilities on each floor with men’s and women’s showers on second floor.
External terrace linking onto the large ground foyer area for meetings and/or social gatherings.
First Floor high spec café which connects to the viewing balcony overlooking the main auditorium and entrance hall.
Large 400 seat children and youth hall on second floor with stage fitted with full multimedia presentation.
State of the art large catering kitchen for conferencing, weddings, parties and other special occasions.
A large number of offices to house the ICC staff and workers.
240 car parking spaces and a number of minibus spaces in our own secure compound.
1,000 seat auditorium with large stage and full PA and multimedia capabilities.

As we move forward as a body to meet this incredible challenge there are five different levels of commitment that we have to help us reach our financial goal:

Catalyst Covenants Partners
This is for those on our Catalyst Group who will commit to investing from their business initiatives or projects anything from £1,000 - £100,000 into the building project one-off gifts or one – three year pledges.

Platinum Partners
Our platinum partners are people or families who will commit to giving £10,000 or more as a one-off gift or one year commitment pledge towards financing the dream of our new building.

Gold Giving Partners
Our Gold giving partners are people who will commit to giving anything from £5,000 - £10,000 as a one-off gift or one year commitment pledge towards financing the dream of our new building.

Silver Sowing Partners
Our Silver sowing partners are people who will commit to giving anything from £1,000 - £5,000 as a one-off gift or one year commitment pledge towards financing the dream of our new building.

Bronze Building Partners
Our bronze building partners can get involved by purchasing a brick or bricks towards the offering. One brick costs as little as £10 and bricks can be bought in singles, 10 or 100 brick packs. Our bronze building partners are people who will give anything from £10 - £1,000 either in a one-off gift or a one year commitment pledge towards financing the dream of our new buildin.

To build something as grand as we have planned will not happen without much effort, sacrifice and commitment from the people of ICC. ICC (formerly DPC) has been actively reaching people with the love of Jesus in Doncaster for over 80 years

In 1938 our Christian forefathers in Doncaster Pentecostal Church built a significant building for their time on Portland place to meet the needs of their day. Then in 1995 our centre on Nether Hall Road was purchased as a community centre then in 2002 became our church home as that generation of people sought to make a place for God’s church to meet.

Now we have the opportunity to build something that will serve the generations to come and give them and is a significant home to take us on into the 21st century. To see this 40,000 sq ft building erected we are looking at a budget of £3 million plus fixtures and fittings. This is no small amount for a church of our size, but together we can do it.

Time To Build: The journey of a dream

In 2002 pastors Grayson and Del Jones and their family moved to Doncaster to take on the church that was known then as Doncaster Pentecostal Church. After working alongside the existing pastor, who was retiring for church leadership, they took over as the senior leaders of the church in July 2002. Immediately they began working to bring about the necessary changes required to build a powerful and relevant church in the 21st century.

Today the church, which is now known as ICC, has changed beyond all recognition and has congregations in both Doncaster and Barnsley with over 400 people of all different ages.

In 2009 after years of seeking and praying the church secured 3.5acres of prime building land to fulfil the dream of erecting a purpose built facility that would serve the growing congregation for its future in Doncaster. This dream is about to be achieved as the church moves forward to begin work on our new purpose built premises.

What an exciting time it is for us at ICC! We have been on this journey now for over eight years as we sought a new home for our operation centre and church meetings. ICC (formally Doncaster Pentecostal Church) has been working in Doncaster for over 80 years and yet we believe we are on the verge of moving into the greatest time the church has ever known.

2010 our theme has been Building God’s House and as we move into this new season and our ‘Time To build’ project where we, as a church, are reaching further in faith than we have ever dared to go before. As you follow this blog, allow God to expand your faith and touch your heart to see where you can get involved and sow into this exciting vision.

God wants to give us everything that we can see by faith. As you read through the blog as more comes online as we go through this project, don’t just see a plan or a drawing of a building, but see yourself in the building enjoying the favour and blessing of God with thousands of others. This is out time, this is our opportunity, lets rise in faith and see God do incredible things.

Time To Build: The Dream is Born

As a church we have been working on developing or building a new centre in Doncaster for longer than I have been the leader of the church. When Del and I first came to speak about coming to Doncaster the thing that caught our attention was the fact that the leadership of the church had plans for a brand new centre on Nether Hall Road.

Since then we have looked at numerous buildings, plots and sites to see what God wanted until we finally purchased our 3.5 acres of land in February 2009. Now as a church we have finally agreed the design of the building, the plans have gone into the planning department and we are almost ready to begin building. Below are some drawings of the new building.

In the Old Testament when the people of Israel were going to build the Tabernacle under Moses, it says that God had in place the design of the building. He also had Bezalel ready to build it (Ex 31), but it also says that the people contributed willingly and generously for the building of it (Ex 35). In fact due to the generosity of the people we read these incredible words in Ex 36:6-7 “Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: ‘No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.’” And so the people were restrained from bringing more, because what they already had was more than enough to do all the work.

As a community of people who have been blessed by God, it is now our turn to give generously to build something that will represent God to our communities and to speak of the God we serve. Let’s not withhold, but release, our resources together as God leads us so we can be part of something incredible being built in our day and generation. We want to build something that will not only bring glory to God, but will also serve as a centre to help people connect with Him and His blessing in their lives for generations to come.
